I was born in Budapest. As a member of the Royal Swedish Academy, I was appointed a member of the Nobel Prize Committee of Medicine and Physiology between 1986 and 1993. I am an external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, my field was cell biology, immunology and cancer research.
