I was born in Budapest. Being a member of the Royal Swedish Academy, I was appointed a member of the Nobel Prize Committee of Medicine and Physiology between 1957 and 1993, based on my activities in cell biology, immunology and cancer research. I was a honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
