I was born to a Ukrainian Jewish family in the village of Nova Priluka. I discovered 15 antibiotics, and also gave them the name antibiotic I obtained the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1952, for discovering streptomycin, the first effective antibiotic against tuberculosis.
